Orthopaedic surgeons and ENT specialists perform a range of smaller procedures that do not always need a hospital theatre. With a sedation team in the rooms, many of these can be done comfortably and efficiently.
Orthopaedic procedures
Your orthopaedic surgeon decides what is suitable for the rooms. Examples may include:
- Minor hand procedures
- Some joint injections and manipulations that are painful when awake
- Removal of small lumps or minor hardware
ENT procedures
Depending on the procedure and your health, your ENT specialist may perform some of the following in the rooms:
- Minor nasal procedures
- Some ear procedures that are uncomfortable or difficult to keep still for
- Biopsies and minor procedures in the mouth or throat
Why sedation in the rooms?
- No need to wait for a theatre slot
- Often more affordable than a hospital procedure
- A calmer experience with your own specialist
- Going home the same day
