Dental anxiety? How sedation can help you get the treatment you need

Dental anxiety is one of the most common fears. For some people it is mild nervousness, for others it is strong enough to avoid the dentist for years, even when they are in pain.

Avoiding the dentist often means small problems become bigger ones. Sedation can break that cycle by making treatment calm and manageable.

Signs that sedation may help you

  • You feel panicky at the thought of the dentist or the sound of the drill
  • You have had a difficult dental experience in the past
  • You need a lot of treatment and would prefer fewer, longer appointments
  • You struggle with injections, the smell of the practice or lying back in the chair

How it works

With sedation, you stay relaxed and drowsy while your dentist works. Many patients remember little of the appointment afterwards. You keep breathing on your own and are monitored continuously by Dr Khan and a second health practitioner.

Because Joburg Sedation is a mobile service, you can have sedation at your own dentist’s practice, with the dentist you already know and trust.

A fresh start

Many patients find that one or two calm appointments under sedation change how they feel about dental care. Your dentist can often complete several treatments in one visit, so you can get back to good oral health quickly.

If you have been putting off treatment because of fear, ask your dentist about sedation, or contact Dr Khan directly to talk it through.
