Dental implants and long dental procedures under sedation

Some dental treatments take time. Implant placement, bone grafting, multiple extractions and full-mouth restorations can mean a long time in the chair. Sedation makes these appointments far easier to get through.

Benefits of sedation for longer treatment

  • Time passes quickly and comfortably
  • Less jaw and muscle fatigue from keeping still
  • Your dentist can often complete more treatment in a single visit
  • Fewer appointments overall, which suits busy schedules

Is the time on the bill the same as the treatment time?

Not exactly. Sedation is quoted for the whole sedation procedure, which includes preparation beforehand and the time it takes you to wake up afterwards, not only the time your dentist spends working. See our fees and medical aid page for the cash rates.

Working with your dentist

Joburg Sedation works alongside general dentists, prosthodontists, periodontists, maxillofacial surgeons and oral medicine specialists. Dr Khan coordinates with your dentist to plan the sedation around the expected length of the procedure.

Safety for longer procedures

For every case, Dr Khan works with a registered nurse or second doctor. They monitor your ECG, oxygen level, heart rate and blood pressure continuously and bring oxygen, emergency drugs and resuscitation equipment to the practice.

Sedation in the dental chair doesn’t usually exceed three hours. If your planned treatment is longer, your dentist may split it over more than one visit.
