Many gynaecological procedures are quick but can be uncomfortable or stressful when you are fully awake. At the same time, booking a hospital theatre adds cost, waiting time and a longer day.
In-rooms sedation offers a middle path: your gynaecologist performs the procedure in their own rooms while Dr Khan’s team keeps you calm, comfortable and closely monitored.
Procedures that may be suitable
Your gynaecologist decides which procedures can be done in the rooms. Depending on the practice and your health, these may include:
- Hysteroscopy and endometrial biopsy
- Colposcopy with biopsy or LLETZ procedures
- Insertion or removal of an IUD in patients who find it difficult
- Some fertility procedures performed in the rooms
Why patients choose it
- Treatment with your own gynaecologist in a familiar setting
- No theatre booking, so it can often be scheduled sooner
- Often more affordable when medical aid does not cover theatre costs
- A quicker recovery and the same-day return home
Your safety
Dr Khan works with a registered nurse or second doctor on every case. Together they assess you beforehand, monitor your ECG, oxygen level, heart rate and blood pressure throughout, and stay with you until you are ready to go home.
If your health or the planned procedure means a hospital setting is safer, Dr Khan and your gynaecologist will advise you.
